Accounting for overexploitation and seabed impact in fisheries biodiversity impact assessment

This seminar is open to all!

On April 12th 2024 at 12:30 to 13:30,

Grégoire Gaillet, consultant at Sayari, France, will present:

Accounting for overexploitation and seabed impact in fisheries biodiversity impact assessment

When using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate the impacts of human activities on the environment, two major drivers of marine biodiversity loss are yet disregarded. This study aims to change it by adding evaluation of biotic resource depletion and seabed impact in the LCA of a saithe (Pollachius virens) fishery operating in the North Sea. Basics of LCA will be presented as well as the methodology and results of the study. This will be followed by an open discussion on the meaning of results, and on expected improvements for further studies.
