Elisabet A. Frick will talk about here Ph.D. project - The role of miR-190b in breast cancer.

Epigenetics and microRNAs (miRNA) are important supervisory mechanisms for maintaining genetic expression patterns in the cell. Differential miRNA expression is commonly shown among breast cancers, often with tumor-suppressive or oncogenic roles. MicroRNA-190b has previously been reported to be up-regulated in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancers, however, very little is known about the processes behind it or its impact on clinical presentation and prognosis. This lead us to further research its promoter methylation status and the clinical implications it may have on breast cancer patients relative to luminal subtypes.

This is part of the Friday biology seminar series.
